Fermentation and Crocks

Fermented foods have been consumed for centuries as part of traditional diets. Whether for flavor, preservation, or edibility, new research reveals just how beneficial the probiotics in fermented foods can be for your health and well-being. They have been shown to:

  • Improve the function of the immune system
  • Enhance nutrient absorption
  • Support blood pressure levels
  • Alleviate diarrhea

Studies suggest that a higher consumption of fermented foods may also be associated with lower rates of social anxiety, alleviating depression, cancer prevention, and preventing allergic diseases in children.

We offer several fermentation supplies to get you started….Masontops Mason Jar Fermentation Kits – Ohio Stoneware Crocks – Redmond Real Salt

Start Fermenting!

Try making your own fermented vegetables at home! There are many websites and books with recipes and useful video tutorials that walk you through the easy fermentation process. Kirsten and Christopher Shockey’s Fermented Vegetables (sold here in our book section) is a good place to start.

Crocks

Ohio Stoneware is one of America’s last remaining commercial pottery manufacturers. We offer their crocks in two styles and several sizes. The traditional, in 2, 3, and 5 gallon sizes and a 3 gallon European Water Seal crock. Both have been a staple for generations for making sauerkraut, pickles and other nutritious ferments. We have both sets and individual pieces to choose from.

Canning Jar Fermentation

We also carry the Masontops line of fermentation products, which makes food fermentation accessible to everyone, regardless of their experience level. These innovative new-to-the-market products were first introduced on Kickstarter and take advantage of using a smaller sized container – the familiar canning jar – converting it into something even more special! A perfect size for storing smaller batches and clean up is easy.
